Lawmakers in Vermont and New York are working to pass bans on cell phones in schools.
Angela Arsenault, who represents Williston, presented a bill to the education committee last month that also prohibits schools from communicating with students on social media for school activities or sports.
Students using phones for medical device monitoring or specialized education can be exempt with documentation.
Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul proposed a statewide phone ban in K-12 schools as part of her executive budget, allowing teachers and administrators to create their own phone storage plans.
